About The THIRSTY PLANET ARTIST SERIES

In partnership, Big Medium and Thirsty Planet Brewing Co. announce Alie Jackson as the selected artist for the Thirsty Planet Artist Series 2021.

In collaboration with a Thirsty Planet brewer, Jackson will conceptualize and create a seasonal beer, starting with flavor, name, label, and packaging. This concept beer will launch and be widely available in retail locations across Austin during the 2021 Austin Studio Tour.

Alie will be brewing alongside Thirsty Planet’s own Shane Erickson. Shane moved to Austin in 2011 and his first beer was Thirsty Goat Amber, leading him to start home brewing in his apartment, concocting an amber of his own. He recently brewed Dumpster Fire, a classic pale ale to celebrate 2020 coming to a close. The two will work together to decide on a style, recipe, and name, responding to the artist’s work.

Thirsty Planet Artist Series is a program produced by Big Medium in partnership with Thirsty Planet Brewing Co. In collaboration with a Thirsty Planet brewer, one Austin based artist creates a concept beer, label, and packaging based on their artistic work. This seasonal beer is launched and widely available in retail locations across Austin during the Austin Studio Tour.

Past Thirsty Planet Artists include Broad Studios (2018), Fernando Muñoz (2019), and Dave McClinton (2020).

Thirsty Planet Brewing Co. crafted Brite Tank, an initiative celebrating creative communities of Austin. In the brewing process, the Brite Tank is the final stage before bottling, giving beer Brightness. Through this initiative, Thirsty Planet seeks out artists, performers, and makers who are becoming ‘Brite’ —on the cusp of something great.

The brewery wants to bring these communities into the world of beer, finding common ground on the fostering of a craft—be it brewing, wood-working, painting, music, or comedy. To achieve this, Thirsty Planet partnered with Big Medium to pair an artist with a brewer to help develop a beer recipe that responds to the artist’s practice.
